Summary
Our HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Driver Apprenticeship is designed for both existing and new people to the industry who want to build a rewarding driving career with the Collard Group.
We’re looking for individuals who are driven and passionate, keen to learn how to work safely in the transport and demolition environment. You’ll be a logical, pragmatic thinker with a warm, common-sense approach when dealing with the public. You should feel comfortable working both independently and as part of the Collard team.

Responsibilities
Day One
- Meet your manager and mentor.
- Complete any outstanding paperwork.
- Attend company, site and driver inductions.
First Few Weeks
- Get familiar with our sites.
- Shadow experienced drivers across a wide range of vehicles.
- Learn practical, hands-on skills from industry professionals.
- Progress to driving a van and working as a second driver in one of our flagship vehicles.
After Three Months
- Begin studying for your HGV licence and Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
- Rotate across different vehicles and sites, under supervision.
- Gain essential hands-on experience and build a strong foundation of knowledge.
Post-Qualification
- You’ll be promoted to HGV Driver and continue to receive support and mentorship for 12 months.
- Your pay will increase to the standard HGV Driver rate
- No prior experience required; training will be provided.
- Valid driving license suitable for HGV vehicles.
- Good understanding of road safety regulations.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and develop driving skills.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance is a plus.
- Prior delivery driver experience is advantageous but not essential.
Qaulifications
- A clean, full UK driving licence with at least two years’ driving experience.
- Confidence and competence behind the wheel.
