AGCCE currently have a vacancy for a Health & Safety Officer on a 6-month fixed term contract. The successful candidate will support the Health & Safety Manager in the delivery of Health & Safety objectives across the organisation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide expert health and safety support across the Sustainability Department and wider business, ensuring the Health & Safety Management System is effectively implemented and compliant with legislation, relevant standards, and best practice.
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits, tours, and workforce interactions to monitor safety and housekeeping standards, identify risks, and recommend practical control measures, while recording and reporting findings and trends.
- Control and oversee high-risk activities, particularly Confined Space Entries, including verifying isolations, conducting gas testing, and stopping work where necessary to ensure legal and procedural compliance.
- Support, monitor, and improve the Permit to Work system through training, auditing, and ongoing feedback to strengthen compliance across the business.
- Coordinate and support emergency preparedness and response activities, including drills and exercises with internal teams and external services, and drive improvements based on lessons learned.
- Analyse and communicate health and safety performance data, inspection results, incidents, and audit findings to help departments make informed decisions and maintain safe, efficient operations.
- Track and report SHE actions and compliance requirements, including maintaining registers, following up with stakeholders, identifying overdue actions, and checking evidence of completion.
- Prepare and share sustainability and health and safety reports, metrics, and trends to support governance, assurance, continuous improvement, and employee/management engagement.
- Participate in Site Safety Committee meetings.
- Participate as a member of the site confined space high risk team and working at height rescue team, supporting safe execution of activities, rescue preparedness and ongoing competence requirements.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
- Health & Safety – A-Level or Higher. Ideally NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
- Understanding of standards relating to Health and Safety Management
- Knowledge of Polymer processing or Chemical environment – advantage
- Proven team worker, self-motivated and able to plan and work with minimum supervision/input.
- Experience of working within a H&S function.
- Experience of manufacturing preferably low Tier COMAH site.
