Job Overview
We are seeking a friendly and efficient Cafe Assistant/Barista to join our vibrant team within Milsyke Prision near York. This role involves preparing and serving high-quality beverages and light food items in a welcoming environment. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering excellent customer service, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the smooth operation of the café. Prior experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills within the hospitality industry. requires working every other weekend.
Duties
- Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, tea, and specialised drinks.
- Assist customers with their orders in a courteous and professional manner.
- Handle food preparation tasks such as assembling sandwiches, salads, or snacks as required.
- Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in all areas of the café.
- Operate coffee machines, blenders, and other equipment safely and efficiently.
- Manage cash register operations, including processing payments accurately.
- Keep the workspace clean and organised, including clearing tables and sanitising surfaces regularly.
- Restock supplies as needed to ensure smooth service during shifts.
- Support team members during busy periods to ensure prompt service delivery.
Experience
- Previous barista experience is desirable but not mandatory; training will be provided for those new to the role.
- Knowledge of food safety standards is preferred to uphold hygiene regulations.
- Experience in serving customers in a fast-paced environment is advantageous.
- Basic maths skills are essential for handling transactions accurately.
- Good time management skills are required to prioritise tasks effectively during busy periods.
