About us
At Bookspeed we’re on a mission to put more books into the world, and we’re looking for two Warehouse Assistants to help us do that.
We are a fun, creative, customer-focused books wholesaler, curating and supplying gorgeous book ranges for an exciting mix of retailers. Our customers include quirky owner-led boutiques and well-known brands, such as Oliver Bonas and Moonpig, as well as independent farm shops, garden centres and many of the UK’s leading heritage sites and attractions, such as the National Trust and the Natural History Museum.
We also work hard to make Bookspeed the best place to work, placing an emphasis on wellbeing, inclusion, flexible working and fun.
The role
Bookspeed has a vacancy for two energetic and efficient individuals to join its team of experienced operatives from mid-June until Christmas 2026. This is a fixed term offer.
Experience in warehouse work is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. The successful candidate will have good numeracy and literacy skills, work well in a team and be able to work accurately in a busy environment. You will be working in a team that flexes from 25 to 35 depending on seasonal workflows.
What you will be doing
Goods Inwards
- Unpacking stock from suppliers
- Scanning in stock onto our system
- Shelving stock accurately according to our alphabetical and bin-ordered systems
- Reorganising shelves to accommodate new ranges
Goods outwards
- Picking orders quickly and accurately
- Packing securely to ensure boxes are within weight guidelines and the goods will not be damaged in transit
Other duties
- General housekeeping
- Tidying shelves, keeping aisles clear, sweeping and cleaning communal surfaces
As your work progresses you will be trained in additional duties carried out by the Warehouse Team.
What we’re looking for
- A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to get stuck in
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
- Able to work well as part of a team and support where needed
- Good attention to detail and a practical approach to tasks
Working pattern
These are both full-time, temporary positions of 37.5 hours per week. Working hours are Monday to Friday; from 9am to 5pm. Full-time staff have two paid breaks of 15 minutes each and an unpaid break of 30 minutes at lunch-time. Working hours may be adjusted in line with business needs. Overtime may be required with prior notice and will be compensated at time and a half for any hours worked beyond your contracted weekly hours.
Full-time staff receive 32 days holiday per year, pro-rata for part-time staff.
Peak time shifts: In order to maximise the space in the main warehouse we may be spreading the workload throughout a longer day by operating a shift system for at least the last three months of the year. This will not mean longer working hours, but you will be required to either start and finish earlier or later. You may occasionally be required to work on a Saturday, in which case you will receive a day off during the week as appropriate.
How to apply
Please submit an online application via Indeed OR send a copy of your CV with a brief covering note to [email protected]. Closing date is midday on Monday 8th June.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to an initial interview. We may run second interviews. If you haven’t heard from us within three weeks once the advert is closed, unfortunately your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.
We want to make applying for our vacancies accessible to all. If you need support to complete your application, please email with your request to [email protected].
Bookspeed is an Equal Opportunities employer and Living Wage and Living Hours accredited. We are committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and walks of life. We believe diverse workforces make successful working environments, but research has shown that some people from under-represented backgrounds won’t apply for jobs if they feel they don’t tick every box. If you think that might be you and you’d like to work for us, we encourage you to apply.
