Job Title: Sessional CYP Counsellor (Up to Age 25)
Responsible to: Counselling Service Manager / Clinical Lead
Location: Doncaster – Centre-based
Contract: Sessional / Self-employed
Hours: Flexible (Monday–Thursday)
Rate: £31 per session
Role Purpose
To provide specialist, trauma-informed counselling support to children and young people up to the age of 25 who have experienced sexual violence and trauma.
The post holder will deliver high-quality therapeutic interventions in line with professional, ethical, and safeguarding standards.
Sessions may be delivered face-to-face, by telephone, or online, ensuring accessible and safe therapeutic support for CYP in a confidential and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Therapeutic Delivery
- Provide one-to-one counselling sessions to children and young people up to age 25
- Deliver therapy via face-to-face, telephone, and online platforms
- Work within agreed therapeutic models and service frameworks
- Maintain professional boundaries and safe therapeutic practice at all times
- Deliver trauma-informed, client-centred therapeutic support
Safeguarding & Risk Management
- Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures
- Identify, assess, and respond appropriately to risk
- Escalate safeguarding concerns in line with organisational procedures
- Maintain awareness of CYP-specific safeguarding responsibilities
Clinical Practice
- Work within a trauma-informed therapeutic framework
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records
- Engage in clinical supervision as required
- Ensure compliance with ethical, professional, and organisational standards
- Work within clinical governance and service policies
Service Delivery
- Work flexibly to meet service demand and allocation of sessions
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive service environment
- Work collaboratively with the wider therapeutic team
- Engage fully with organisational policies, procedures, and systems
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified counsellor (minimum diploma/degree)
- Registered with a professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP)
- Experience working with trauma and/or sexual violence
- Experience delivering counselling to children, young people, or young adults (up to age 25)
- Experience delivering therapy face-to-face, telephone, and online
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload
Desirable
- Experience working within specialist sexual violence services
- Experience working with children and young people (CYP)
- Experience in voluntary, charity, or community sector settings
- Knowledge of trauma, attachment, and recovery models
