Job role and scope
Reporting to the SMT and Test Supervisor, you will support production through the rework, repair, modification and assembly of electronic products and printed circuit boards. Working from engineering documentation and customer requirements, you will carry out precision soldering and component replacement activities while ensuring the highest standards of quality, workmanship and reliability are maintained. You will work closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams to resolve defects and support customer delivery requirements.
Main responsibilities
- Carry out SMT and through-hole rework, repair and modification activities on electronic assemblies.
- Remove and replace surface mount components, including fine-pitch devices and BGAs where trained and authorised.
- Complete engineering changes, customer modifications and product upgrades in accordance with approved documentation.
- Read and interpret drawings, assembly instructions, schematics and bills of materials.
- Use soldering, rework, inspection and X-ray equipment to complete work to required standards.
- Identify and report quality, process or product issues to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with ESD, quality, housekeeping and health and safety requirements.
- Support assembly, inspection or testing activities as required to meet business needs.
Skills, knowledge & experience
- Proven experience of SMT and through-hole soldering and rework.
- Ability to solder and rework components down to 0201 package size.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams and bills of materials.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good understanding of ESD controls and electronic assembly standards.
- Experience of BGA rework, track repairs, modifications or IPC standards would be advantageous.

Remuneration package:
Salary: Up to £32,000 pa (dependent on skills & experience)
Working hours: Full time is 37 hours per week
Mon – Thu 07:30-16.00 (half hour lunch) and Fri – 07:30-12:30 (no lunch)
Holiday: 25 days plus Bank Holidays (includes Christmas shutdown) Plus, up to 5 days for long service
Pension scheme: Auto-enrolment with People Pensions (5% + 3% company contributions)
