Job Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals within a school catering environment.
- Support the Catering Manager and wider kitchen team in delivering a high-quality food service to pupils and staff.
- Prepare food items in line with menus, dietary requirements, and food safety standards.
- Serve meals efficiently while providing a friendly and professional service to students and school staff.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen, dining areas, and food preparation areas.
- Carry out washing up duties and ensure kitchen equipment, utensils, and workspaces are kept clean and organised.
- Assist with stock rotation, food storage, and checking deliveries when required.
- Follow food safety procedures, including allergen management and safe food handling practices.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any faults or issues to supervisors.
- Support with setting up and clearing dining areas before and after service.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow school safeguarding procedures at all times.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure an efficient and welcoming catering service.

Must-Have Requirements
- Previous experience working in a catering, kitchen, hospitality, or food service environment.
- Good understanding of food hygiene, health and safety, and safe working practices.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy school catering environment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work.
- Ability to complete basic food preparation and kitchen duties.
- Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe environment for children.
- Enhanced DBS disclosure and Children’s Barred List check required.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Up-to-date CV.
- Two years’ written referencing with all employment gaps verified.
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Previous experience working within a school, education, or local authority catering environment.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification or equivalent.
- Knowledge of allergen awareness and dietary requirements.
- Experience using commercial kitchen equipment.
- Understanding of school meal service requirements and standards.
Pay: £1.00 per hour
