Senior Head Gardener / Team Leader
We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Head Gardener / Team Leader to join our established team in North Devon.
This is a hands-on senior role for someone with extensive horticultural knowledge who is confident leading teams and taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of both high-end private gardens and estates and large-scale commercial grounds maintenance contracts.
The role will include:
- Leading, supervising and organising teams on a daily basis.
- Planning workloads and ensuring works are completed efficiently, on time and to a high standard.
- Maintaining high-end private gardens, estates and commercial grounds.
- Using extensive plant, shrub and tree knowledge to manage and maintain planting schemes.
- Hedge cutting, pruning, planting, lawn care, border maintenance and all other aspects of horticulture.
- Confidently operating professional grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
- Monitoring standards across sites and identifying any work that needs to be carried out.
- Communicating professionally with clients, colleagues and management.
- Supporting our landscaping and tree surgery teams when required.
- Travelling to sites throughout Devon as part of the role.
Essential skills and experience:
- Significant professional horticultural and grounds maintenance experience.
- Excellent plant, shrub and tree knowledge.
- Previous experience leading, supervising or managing a team.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple sites and workloads.
- High standards of workmanship and excellent attention to detail.
- Confident using professional grounds maintenance machinery.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- Horticultural qualifications, certificates or formal education such as RHS, NVQ or equivalent.
- PA1 and PA6 pesticide application certificates.
- Trailer towing entitlement / experience.
- Chainsaw qualifications.
- Landscaping and/or tree surgery experience.
Salary: Competitive – dependent on experience and qualifications.

Pay: £28,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
