The Garden Room Café is looking for an experienced Weekend Chef / Café Cook to join our team in Poole.
This is mainly a weekend position, working Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am to 4:00pm, with the possibility of working up to 4 days per week: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
We are looking for someone with real kitchen experience who can confidently prepare high-quality café food, including breakfast, brunch and lunchtime dishes. The right candidate must be able to cook professionally, work efficiently during service, and present plates to a high standard.
This is not an entry-level kitchen role. We need someone who understands quality, timing, cleanliness and food presentation.
Main responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking breakfast and lunch dishes to a high standard
- Cooking items from our breakfast and lunchtime menus professionally
- Preparing Full English breakfasts, omelettes, eggs, sandwiches, toasties, burgers, salads, jacket potatoes and brunch-style dishes
- Making sure every plate is well presented before it leaves the kitchen
- Preparing ingredients before service
- Working quickly and calmly during busy periods
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and safe
- Following food hygiene and food safety standards
- Managing stock, prep and kitchen organisation
- Communicating clearly with front-of-house staff
- Maintaining consistent quality across all dishes
Requirements
- Previous chef, cook or kitchen experience is required
- Experience in a café, breakfast, brunch or restaurant kitchen is strongly preferred
- Must be confident cooking breakfast and lunch service
- Must understand good plate presentation
- Must be available to work Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am to 4:00pm
- Availability to work Thursday and Friday would be a strong advantage
- Able to work independently when needed
- Reliable, punctual and well organised
- Able to work under pressure
- Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety
- Right to work in the UK
Preferred experience
- Experience preparing café-style breakfast and lunch menus
- Experience with Full English breakfast, eggs, sandwiches, burgers, salads and brunch dishes
- Food Hygiene Certificate preferred
- Experience working in a small but busy kitchen
- Ability to help maintain consistency and quality from day one
