About the Role:
Glasgow has a proud engineering and industrial heritage, and at E Babtain Engineering Services Ltd, we build on that tradition by delivering reliable electrical systems for modern infrastructure, commercial facilities and technical projects.
We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer who can take technical ownership of electrical design and project delivery. You will guide engineering work from early-stage assessment through detailed design, installation support, testing and final handover.
This is a high-level technical position with leadership responsibilities, but it is not an executive management role. You will work closely with project managers, clients, contractors and other engineering disciplines to ensure that electrical systems are safe, compliant, efficient and suitable for long-term operation.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment:
Our Glasgow office provides a professional and collaborative setting where engineering teams can work closely with project stakeholders. You will be part of a practical and delivery-focused environment where technical knowledge and sound judgement are valued.
Meaningful Projects:
You will contribute to electrical infrastructure and building-services projects that have a direct impact on operational performance, safety and reliability.
Technical Ownership:
You will have the authority to make engineering recommendations, review design decisions and influence how projects are delivered from concept through completion.
Professional Development:
We support continuing professional development, technical training and progress towards relevant professional engineering accreditation.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Design Leadership:
Lead the design and development of low-voltage electrical systems, power distribution, lighting, earthing, protection and associated building-services installations.
Technical Review:
Review drawings, calculations, specifications, equipment schedules and technical submissions to ensure accuracy, compliance and constructability.
Project Delivery:
Coordinate electrical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, detailed design, procurement support, site installation, testing and commissioning.
Team Guidance:
Provide technical support and mentoring to electrical engineers, graduate engineers and technical design staff. Review work and help maintain consistent engineering standards.
Client and Contractor Coordination:
Attend design meetings, technical workshops and site reviews. Communicate engineering requirements clearly to clients, consultants, suppliers and contractors.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure that designs and installations comply with applicable UK regulations, British Standards, health and safety requirements and project-specific technical standards.
Risk Management:
Identify technical risks, design conflicts and delivery challenges at an early stage. Recommend practical solutions that protect programme, cost, quality and safety.
Documentation:
Prepare and review technical reports, design calculations, specifications, inspection records and commissioning documentation.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience:
At least 6 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, including responsibility for complex design or project-delivery work.
Technical Background:
Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, protection, cable sizing, lighting, earthing, equipment selection and electrical safety principles.
Qualifications:
A degree or recognised professional qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Professional Registration:
Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration would be advantageous.
Software Skills:
Experience using electrical design and calculation software, CAD platforms and standard Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with BIM or Revit environments would be beneficial.
Standards Knowledge:
A good working understanding of UK electrical regulations, British Standards and relevant construction or infrastructure requirements.
Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to explain technical decisions to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
Mindset:
You are organised, safety-conscious and commercially aware. You can balance technical quality with programme and budget requirements while maintaining high professional standards.
Pay: £3,118.00-£5,225.00 per month
Work Location: In person
