PlanetBloom is a growing renewable energy company specialising in Solar PV and Battery Storage installations across the UK.
As our installation volumes continue to grow, we are looking for a highly experienced Nominated Technical Electrical Engineer / Qualified Supervisor (QS) to take technical oversight of our electrical and Solar PV installations.
This is a senior and important position within the business. You will be responsible for ensuring our installations, installers, certification and technical documentation consistently meet the required electrical, MCS and industry standards.
The Role
You will act as PlanetBloom's Nominated Technical Electrical Engineer / Qualified Supervisor, overseeing the electrical and technical compliance of our Solar PV and battery installations.
You will work closely with our installation teams and office staff to ensure every project is correctly installed, inspected, documented, certified and handed over.
The role will primarily be office/home based, working from our Eccles, Manchester operation, although occasional site visits, technical inspections and surveys will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the company's Qualified Supervisor (QS) under either NICEIC or NAPIT registration.
- Review, verify and where appropriate sign off electrical certification for installations carried out by the business.
- Maintain technical oversight of our Solar PV and battery installation teams.
- Ensure electricians and installation subcontractors hold the appropriate qualifications, competencies and accreditations for the work they undertake.
- Ensure all Solar PV and battery installations are completed in accordance with current MCS requirements, BS 7671 and applicable electrical and industry standards.
- Review installation documentation and identify any technical or compliance issues before projects are completed.
- Provide technical guidance and support to electricians, roofers and installation teams.
- Carry out or arrange site inspections and quality-control checks where required.
- Assist with technical surveys and pre-installation assessments where necessary.
- Manage and understand DNO requirements, including G98/G99 applications, notifications and obtaining the appropriate DNO acceptance/commissioning documentation.
- Manage the technical administration associated with MCS certification and registration.
- Ensure all required documentation is correctly collated for each installation.
- Review and complete customer handover packs, ensuring all required certificates, warranties, manuals, commissioning information and supporting documents are included.
- Ensure installations are correctly registered and customers receive their documentation within the required timescales.
- Maintain accurate technical and compliance records.
- Keep up to date with changes to MCS standards, wiring regulations, DNO requirements and relevant renewable-energy regulations.
- Work with management to continually improve installation quality, processes and technical compliance across the business.
Essential Requirements
We are specifically looking for someone with significant previous Solar PV experience. This is not an entry-level electrical position.
The successful candidate must have:
- Extensive practical and technical experience within the Solar PV industry.
- Strong experience with Solar PV and battery storage systems.
- The qualifications and competency required to act as a Qualified Supervisor (QS) for the business.
- Experience working under NICEIC or NAPIT.
- Strong knowledge of BS 7671 and electrical inspection, testing and certification.
- Excellent understanding of MCS standards and compliance requirements.
- Experience with MCS certification/registration systems and processes.
- Strong knowledge of DNO applications and notifications, including G98 and G99 processes.
- Experience reviewing and signing off electrical installation certification.
- A thorough understanding of the documentation required to produce a complete Solar PV customer handover pack.
- Strong attention to detail and a compliance-focused approach.
- The confidence and technical knowledge to oversee and challenge installation work where standards are not being met.
- Full UK driving licence, as occasional site visits will be required.
Desirable Experience
Experience in the following would be advantageous:
- Domestic and commercial Solar PV installations.
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Solar PV system design.
- MCS audits and technical assessments.
- DNO applications and export limitation requirements.
- Reviewing installer competency and carrying out technical site audits.
- Producing technical reports and remedial recommendations.
Working Hours & Location
Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 5:00pm
The position will be a mixture of office and home-based working, with our main office located in Eccles, Manchester.
Occasional travel to installation sites may be required for inspections, technical support, surveys or quality-control purposes.

Who We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced solar professional who takes pride in ensuring installations are completed correctly, safely and compliantly.
You should be comfortable taking technical responsibility for the electrical side of the business, overseeing installers, reviewing certification and ensuring that every PlanetBloom installation meets the required MCS and electrical standards.
