Job Title: Thermal Packaging Engineer

General Summary
Focusing on design, development, and qualification of thermal controlled packaging solutions such as passive shippers and thermal insulated covers to protect temperature sensitive goods during transit.
Essential Functions & Duties:
- Develop and optimise passive insulated systems, particularly focusing on thermal covers.
- Evaluate material properties such as R-value, thermal conductivity, emissivity, and solar reflectance in order to maximise protection against radiant heat during transit.
- Develop and maintain all aspects of a project, including the scope, product specification, schedule, and cost.
- Analyse and interpret temperature data from loggers in order to map temperature risks, investigate any temperature excursions, and implement corrective actions (CAPA) if necessary.
- Support internal/external manufacturing and suppliers in order to assure product conformance to our required high standards of quality and performance.
- Create technical specifications, 2D/3D engineering drawings, and manufacturing bill of materials (BOM).
- Conduct physical stress testing on thermal covers to evaluate tear resistance, durability, etc. across repeated logistics cycles.
- Drive sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities to transition from single-use thermal covers to multi-use reusable covers.
- Support supply chain team initiatives in qualifying alternative materials and solutions to drive efficiency and cost savings.
- Support thermal modelling & lane risk analysis studies using industry simulation software.
- Author and execute performance summary qualifications for the cold chain industry to support customer onboarding/implementation.

- Aptitude for understanding product features, functions, and failure modes at a technical level.
- Ability to draft supporting documentation such as test protocols, test reports, work instructions, and product/user guides.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent workmanship.
- Ability to follow processes and procedures to ensure integrity of product design.
- Experienced user of 3D modelling/2D CAD software (Solidworks) and design simulation software is preferred.
- Knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Life Management (PLM) would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft 365 suite of programs. Must be a proficient user of Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Ability to define, create, read, and understand technical drawings and bills of materials (BOM) relative to industry standards.
- A willingness to quickly adjust priorities based on business needs.
- Must possess analytical thinking and reasoning skills.
- Must be self-motivated and able to self-manage.
- Must be a team player.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree (BA) in Packaging, Mechanical, or an equivalent Engineering related field.
- 3–5+ years' experience in thermal packaging, life sciences, or cold chain logistics related field is ideal.
- Product development experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of global regulatory standards (ISTA, ASTM, etc.) and qualifications (DQ, OQ, PQ).
Work Environment
Onsite in office and laboratory environment daily; will spend some time in the manufacturing plant.
