Job Advert
We are looking for a Finance Assistant to join our Finance team at NFU Energy.
This is a varied role for someone with experience in finance who is keen to strengthen their knowledge, broaden their experience and contribute to an effective finance function.
The role will initially focus on key areas including accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and aged debt, alongside supporting wider Finance activities. Over time, there may be opportunities to gain exposure to other areas as business needs, team capacity and individual capability develop.
You’ll work closely with our Senior Finance Manager within a collaborative team where knowledge sharing, cross-training and continuous improvement are encouraged.
Your initial responsibilities will include:
-
Managing accounts receivable processes across different areas of the business
-
Raising and processing customer invoices
-
Maintaining accurate customer accounts
-
Allocating receipts and completing bank reconciliations
-
Managing aged debt and supporting effective credit control
-
Preparing and posting finance journals
-
Completing month-end reconciliations
-
Investigating discrepancies and resolving queries
-
Supporting the wider Finance team during month-end, year-end and audit activities
-
Providing cover across other Finance processes where required
We’re looking for someone with a good grounding in finance who is reliable, curious and keen to continue developing their skills.
You’ll ideally have:
-
Previous experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or similar role
-
Experience of accounts receivable and/or general transactional finance
-
Some experience of reconciliations
-
Good Excel skills
-
Strong attention to detail
-
The ability to organise your workload and meet deadlines
-
Confidence investigating differences rather than simply processing transactions
-
Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence and resilience to engage customers by phone and work with colleagues outside Finance
An interest in understanding why figures change and what they mean for the business would be beneficial.
We want everyone in our Finance team to have the opportunity to build their skills and broaden their experience.
Depending on business priorities, team capacity and your development needs, the role may provide exposure to areas such as:
Month-end accounting • Management information • Financial analysis • Budgeting and forecasting • Working with stakeholders across the business
Relevant learning may include financial analysis, Excel and data analysis, commercial awareness, critical thinking, and communication with colleagues across the business.
Support towards an appropriate accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or AAT may be considered, depending on your existing experience, career plans, business requirements and company policy.
You’ll probably enjoy this role if you take pride in accurate work, like solving problems and want to understand the reasons behind the numbers.
We’re particularly interested in people who are willing to ask questions, take responsibility for their work and suggest practical improvements.
You’ll join a supportive Finance team where responsibilities and development opportunities are reviewed in line with individual readiness, team needs and business priorities.
