Our training enables a gradual progression through to full qualification as a practising counsellor and are validated by the CPCAB – the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body. The trainings enjoy a growing reputation and serve as resource for the charity’s own counsellor recruitment.
Listening Post is seeking an experienced and motivated Training Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of our counselling training provision.
This key managerial role involves line managing our team of tutors, developing and promoting our courses, ensuring high-quality training delivery, and maintaining compliance with CPCAB requirements.

Job Purpose
The Training Manager is responsible for the development, management, promotion, and oversight of all training delivered by Listening Post. The role ensures that student recruitment is sufficient for courses to run, that training quality meets CPCAB requirements, and that Listening Post maintains high professional standards across all levels of training provision.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Managerial Responsibilities
The Training Manager is one of three key managerial posts reporting directly to the CEO.
They will line manage all Listening Post tutors delivering Listening Post Training Courses.
Key managerial duties include:
· Providing leadership, guidance, and support to all tutors.
· Ensuring consistency and quality across all training programmes.
· Organising and chairing Training Team meetings every quarter to review progress, share feedback, and support professional development.
· Establishing a strong working relationship with CPCAB and being the Point of Contact for visits by the External Verifier.
· Establishing a strong working relationship with the Clinical Manager, meeting regularly to align training delivery with clinical governance, quality standards, and service needs.
· Leading the development of the training function, including reviewing capacity and structure, with scope to grow the wider training team and assume organisation of counsellor Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within Listening Post.
2. Promotion and Recruitment
The Training Manager will design and deliver an annual student recruitment strategy to ensure viable course numbers. This includes:
· Overseeing all promotional materials, leaflets, and advertising.
· Working with the Communications Assistant to implement recruitment campaigns.
· Building and maintaining relationships with community groups, organisations, other training providers and potential referral sources.
· Actively promoting Listening Post training through outreach, presentations, and networking.
3. Oversight of Training Standards
The Training Manager will ensure that all training delivered by Listening Post meets CPCAB requirements and aligns with the charity’s values and strategic aims. Responsibilities include:
· Supporting the CEO in the recruitment and selection of Tutors.
· Reviewing and assessing training fees annually with the CEO and Finance Officer.
· Supporting Tutors with student selection processes.
· Liaising with CPCAB as required.
· Implementing and contributing to the development of policies, procedures, and agreements relating to training delivery.
· Working with the CEO, Clinical Manager, and Operations Manager on any HR matters relating to students.
· Maintaining accurate oversight of training quality, compliance, and documentation, with a view to future BACP accreditation.
4. Course Development
The Training Manager will lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of all Listening Post training courses. This includes:
- Developing new courses in line with organisational strategy, community need, and CPCAB requirements.
- Reviewing and updating existing course content, materials, and delivery methods to ensure they remain current, engaging, and professionally robust.
- Working collaboratively with tutors to ensure course materials reflect best practice and support high‑quality learning outcomes.
- Ensuring all course documentation, handbooks, and assessment materials meet CPCAB standards and internal quality expectations.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation in teaching methods, blended learning, and student support.
