Here at Sense, we support people with complex disabilities to live the life they choose. We're looking for a Support Worker to join our professional team at Sense College Bedford on a fixed-term role for 45 weeks, working 21 hours per week across Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9:00am to 4:00pm, paying £13.00 per hour.
You'll be working with young adults with complex communication needs, sensory impairments, and associated learning and physical disabilities, supporting them to achieve everyday living outcomes in a college environment. No previous experience is needed, we're happy to support you to become an excellent support worker.
What makes this role truly unique is the range of communication approaches you'll learn and use, from BSL and Sign Supported English to Objects of Reference and Voice Output Communication Aids. Our timetabled sessions cover communication, creative arts, therapies, lifeskills, and community access as well as enrichment activities including cinema trips, theatre, museum touch tours, and river trips on an adapted barge. No two days will be the same.
A full manual UK driving licence and knowledge of BSL or Makaton are both desirable, though full training will be provided.
