£13.50+ per hour | 40 hours | 4-day working week | Bristol
The Bristol Loaf is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Chef de Partie to join our kitchen team.
We’re passionate about making seriously good food from great ingredients. Our menus are built around local, seasonal and sustainably sourced produce, with everything from sandwiches and brunch dishes to deli salads, ferments, pickles and house-cured meats made with care.
Our kitchen is hands-on and creative. We cure, pickle, smoke, ferment, roast and chargrill, and we’re always looking for ways to turn simple ingredients into something memorable.
If you’re a chef who cares about where ingredients come from, enjoys learning new techniques and wants to be part of an ambitious independent food business, we’d love to hear from you.
The food
We take plenty of inspiration from the Italian approach to sandwiches and deli food: start with exceptional ingredients, treat them properly and don’t overcomplicate things.
Think house-cured and roasted meats, chargrilled seasonal vegetables, brilliant South West cheeses, fresh breads, punchy pickles, ferments and creative plant-based cooking.
Alongside our bakery and pastry offering, the kitchen produces:
- Breakfast dishes to accompany our freshly baked pastries and bread
- A deli counter packed with seasonal salads and sandwiches
- A fresh, simple brunch and lunch menu for eating in or taking away
- Evening food including hot sandwiches, burgers, chef specials and inventive sides
The role
As a Chef de Partie, you’ll be an important part of the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
You’ll work closely with the wider kitchen team to deliver consistently excellent food, maintain high standards and contribute ideas as our menus develop.
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their section, works cleanly and efficiently, and stays calm when service gets busy.
You’ll also have the opportunity to develop your skills in techniques including curing, fermenting, pickling, baking and smoking.
About you
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Have around 3 years’ professional cooking experience
- Have experience in a busy kitchen, bakery, deli, street-food business or similar environment
- Are confident working a section during a fast-paced service
- Have strong organisational skills and can prioritise effectively
- Care about seasonality, sustainability and the quality of your ingredients
- Enjoy learning new techniques and developing your skills
- Bring ideas, curiosity and creativity to the kitchen
- Are reliable, positive and enjoy working as part of a team
What we offer
- £13.50+ per hour, depending on experience
- 40-hour working week
- 4-day week, typically working four 10-hour shifts
- Ongoing training and opportunities to develop within an established independent business
- Staff discounts across The Bristol Loaf venues
- Discounts with our sister company, Native Vine
- Free or discounted food while working
- The opportunity to work with excellent local produce and develop a broad range of kitchen skills
The role is based at The Bristol Loaf, Bristol BS5 9HL, so you’ll need to be able to reliably commute to the site or be planning to relocate to Bristol.
