About Cloudscaler:
Cloudscaler supercharge our clients’ cloud transformation. We design, build, operate, and support world-class AWS platforms. We take a structured approach, deploying highly resilient and scalable infrastructure, and applying a control framework that meets the highest regulatory and industry standards.
About the role:
This is a real engineering role with a real qualification attached. You will join Cloudscaler as an AI Engineer Apprentice on a fully funded Level 6 apprenticeship, delivered with our training partner QA. You will learn to build, deploy, and operate AI and cloud solutions, and you will do it on live work, supported by experienced practitioners. You do not need prior cloud or AI experience. You need passion, aptitude, curiosity, and the drive to become a professional engineer. We will teach you the rest.
Over roughly 23 months you will earn a degree-equivalent qualification, gain a stack of industry certifications, and develop the consulting craft that separates a competent engineer from a genuinely useful one. You will finish as a client-ready engineer, embedded in how Cloudscaler works.
Responsibilities:
Build under supervision: provision and manage AWS resources using Terraform and infrastructure as code, from a written specification.
Support live operations: help resolve incidents in the Engine Room, following our ITIL process, and contribute to the knowledge base.
Work with AI: help prototype and test AI and machine learning solutions, then move them towards production.
Write like a professional: produce architecture decision records (ADRs), post-incident reviews (PIRs), runbooks, and clear status updates.
Work commercially: record your time accurately, work in Agile and Kanban rhythms, and take part in stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
Use our tools: use Claude in your day-to-day work for drafting, code review, and documentation, and learn when to trust AI output and when to verify it.
Who we are looking for:
Aptitude: A STEM background or strong numeracy and problem-solving ability. Any discipline.
Motivation: A clear desire to build a career in cloud and AI engineering, and the discipline to study alongside working.
Behaviours: Clear, honest communication, a collaborative attitude, and the willingness to ask for help and act on feedback.
Security clearance: You must be eligible to gain SC clearance.
The following experience would be beneficial:
Any exposure to Python, scripting, Terraform, Docker, or Linux, even from study or personal projects.
A basic understanding of what cloud computing is and why organisations use it.
Evidence that you finish what you start: a project, a qualification, a side interest pursued to a good standard.
An interest in how AI is used responsibly in regulated settings, where you cannot take outputs at face value.
Your passion for learning and quest for knowledge shows up in your day-to-day life and how you apply new skills and discover new hobbies.
Entry requirements:
Acceptable qualifications include any of:
Two A-levels in one or more similar subject plus B in A-Level maths.
Two A-levels in one or more similar subject plus 2-years work experience in tech.
Level 4 or 5 apprenticeship in a similar technical subject.
International Baccalaureate at Level 3 in a similar subject.
3+ years in a similar subject-related role.
A first degree in a numerate discipline (but excluding Computer Science as not fundable).
You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.
If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
