Trainee Machine Operator / Skilled Labourer
SEDA Steelwork Engineering LTD is looking for a motivated and reliable Trainee Machine Operator / Skilled Labourer to join our team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is keen to learn, work hard, and build a long-term career within the steel fabrication industry. The successful candidate will start as a skilled labourer and, over a 12-month training period, will be trained to operate our Voortman V807 machine and shot blaster, with the aim of becoming fully competent and able to run the machinery independently.
Main duties will include:
- Assisting with the operation of the Voortman V807 and shot blaster
- Learning how to set up, run, and maintain machinery safely and efficiently
- Handling steel sections and materials within the workshop
- Using overhead cranes and forklift trucks, once trained and authorised
- Loading and unloading materials
- Checking materials and finished work for quality
- Keeping the work area clean, safe, and organised
- Following company health and safety procedures at all times
- Supporting other areas of the workshop when required
The ideal candidate will have:
- A good attitude and willingness to learn
- Experience in a workshop, fabrication, engineering, or steel environment would be beneficial
- Good timekeeping and reliability
- The ability to follow instructions and work safely
- Confidence working around heavy materials and machinery
- Overhead crane or forklift experience would be an advantage, but training can be provided
- A long-term mindset and desire to progress within the company
Training and progression:
This role is designed as a 12-month training position. During this time, you will be trained on the machinery, workshop procedures, material handling, safety requirements, and quality standards. The goal is for the successful candidate to progress into a fully competent machine operator who can run the machinery unassisted.

Licence/Certification: Forklift licence preferred but not essential
