We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Valuer to join our professional team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialised skills within the collectables auctioneering market by acquiring knowledge of the items being offered for sale. The role involves supporting experienced valuers in assessing items, describing them accurately, preparing catalogue descriptions with sale estimates and preparing condition reports. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a keen interest in the collectables being offered for sale, which include antique collectable cards, all types of sports memorabilia, coins, stamps, and postcards. They must possess strong organisational abilities, and have excellent communication skills. This paid position is suitable for individuals looking to start a career in collectables valuation or related fields.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior valuers with writing accurate catalogue descriptions
- Gather relevant data and documentation for valuation reports
- Organise workload to contribute to the timely production of auction catalogues.
- Support the preparation of valuation reports for items being offered at auction.
- Communicate effectively with clients, including buyers and sellers of items.
- To assist with marketing and social media aspects of the Auctions and promote items for sale to the widest possible audience.
Skills
- Administrative experience is advantageous, demonstrating organisational competence
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise confidently with clients and team members
- Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately
- A keen interest in the collectables market and valuation processes
- Ability to work well as part of a team, showing initiative and reliability
- Willingness to learn new skills through training programmes and on-the-job experience
