Job Overview
We're looking for an outgoing and detail orientated bookkeeper to join our ever-growing VAT and bookkeeping department. You'll predominantly take ownership of monthly bookkeeping and VAT clients, while also preparing records for our accounts team ahead of year-end.
Duties
- Monthly bookkeeping - processing purchase and sales invoices, keeping client debtors and creditors up to date and accurate, maintaining a tidy trial balance
- Bank reconciliations - for VAT clients, year-end accounts and management accounts
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns - in accordance with deadlines and MTD requirements
- Liaising directly with clients- providing information and advise, or contacting them regarding queries when necessary
- Other administrative duties regarding VAT- assisting with investigations and contacting HMRC regarding account / VAT queries
- Company secretarial admin — confirmation statements, share transfers, changes of officers and registered office, maintaining registers, Companies House

Essential :
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or Senior Bookkeeper with a strong understanding of accounting principles
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
- Confident preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Comfortable using online accounting softwares and Excel
- Ability to work through a monthly deadline and flag when a deadline is looking to be tight
- Ability to speak to clients in a confident and professional manner
Desirable :
- Experience of company secretarial work or Companies House filings
- Exposure to either Sage cloud or Xero
- Ability to take bookkeeping to a Trial balance level, ready for accounts to take over
- Some knowledge in Payroll to potentially help in busy periods or cover staff holidays
