Develop your career in construction estimating
UK Restoration Services is a specialist contractor delivering conservation, restoration and refurbishment projects to historic and significant buildings.
We are looking for an Assistant Estimator with some practical experience of carrying out construction take-offs and working from drawings.
You will support the preparation of tenders, including measurement, Excel-based estimating and obtaining prices from subcontractors and suppliers. You will also assist with PQQs and the quality element of tender submissions.
This is primarily an estimating role and would suit someone who has started developing their measurement and pricing skills and is looking to progress within a supportive specialist construction business.
Direct heritage experience is not essential. Training will be provided in our specialist works, tender processes and quality submissions.
Key responsibilities
- Carrying out take-offs from drawings, specifications and tender information
- Measuring labour, material, plant and subcontract requirements
- Preparing take-off sheets, pricing schedules and tender breakdowns
- Assisting with the preparation and checking of Excel-based estimates
- Reviewing tender information and identifying omissions or clarification requirements
- Preparing and issuing enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers
- Following up quotations and comparing returns on a like-for-like basis
- Maintaining clear tender, quotation and pricing records
- Assisting with PQQs, expressions of interest and quality submissions
- Collating case studies, policies, certificates and supporting information
- Helping coordinate tender deadlines, clarification questions and final submissions
- Supporting the handover of successful tenders to the project-delivery team
About you
You should have:
- Some practical experience carrying out construction take-offs
- The ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
- Confidence using Microsoft Excel
- Good numerical skills and attention to detail
- Confidence communicating with subcontractors, suppliers and colleagues
- Good organisation and the ability to work to deadlines
- A willingness to learn and develop within an estimating role
You may currently be working as an Estimating Assistant, Junior Estimator, Trainee Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Assistant or in another construction role involving measurement and pricing.
Desirable experience
It would be helpful, but is not essential, to have experience of:
- Obtaining subcontractor or supplier quotations
- Preparing quotation comparisons
- Refurbishment, conservation or work to existing buildings
- Bills of quantities or pricing schedules
- PQQs, tender submissions or procurement portals
- Construction-related study or qualifications
