We are seeking a motivated and practical Wheat Breeding Technician to join our breeding team based in Woolpit, Suffolk.
The successful candidate will play a key role across all stages of the breeding programme, from seed preparation and drilling through to crop assessment, harvest, data management and laboratory analysis. This is a varied and hands-on role involving field, laboratory, warehouse and office-based work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- · Cleaning, treating and sampling of seed for drilling
- · Assisting with the arrangement of field layouts and drilling trials and nurseries
- · Assist with the running of locally contracted official trials through BSPB and AHDB
- · Field assessments of disease and other agronomic traits
- · Data entry into BOS/BAT
- · Harvesting of Trials and Breeding Programme
- · Assist with other aspects of trial management when required
- · Supervision of temporary staff as required to complete the major tasks
- · Preparation of grain samples for quality evaluation and assist in laboratory analysis
- · Assist with other aspects of the wheat breeding programme when required

Desirable Skills and Experience
- PA1, PA2, PA4, PA6 and PA11 certificates.
- Experience of crop assessment and agronomic evaluation.
- Knowledge of cereal production and breeding programmes.
- Full clean driving licence
