We are a growing UK haulage and logistics company operating a modern fleet of HGV vehicles. Due to continued expansion and increasing demand from both existing and new customers, we are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Transport Planner to join our team.

The Role
As our Transport Planner, you will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and coordination of our HGV fleet. You will manage work from our regular customer base, haulage exchanges, Amazon Relay, and general haulage operations, ensuring vehicles are utilised efficiently while maintaining excellent service levels and legal compliance.
You will work closely with drivers, customers, and management to deliver an efficient transport operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule HGV vehicle movements across the UK.
- Allocate work efficiently to maximise vehicle utilisation and minimise empty running.
- Manage transport requirements for:
- General haulage
- Haulage Exchange loads
- Amazon Relay bookings
- Regular contracted customers
- Liaise with drivers throughout the day regarding collections, deliveries and route changes.
- Monitor vehicle progress and respond quickly to delays or operational issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and subcontractors.
- Source profitable return loads where required.
- Ensure all transport operations comply with UK drivers' hours regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
- Maintain accurate transport records and daily planning schedules.
- Resolve customer queries professionally and efficiently.
- Support the continued growth of the business by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience as a Transport Planner within the UK road haulage industry.
- Strong knowledge of HGV transport operations.
- Experience using Haulage Exchange.
- Experience working with Amazon Relay (preferred but not essential).
- Good understanding of UK drivers' hours legislation and transport compliance.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- The ability to work under pressure and prioritise multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills with both drivers and customers.
- Good IT skills and experience using transport management systems.
- A proactive, positive and solution-focused attitude.
Desirable Experience
- Experience planning articulated and rigid HGV vehicles.
- Knowledge of transport management software.
- Experience managing subcontractors.
- CPC qualification (advantageous but not essential).
