Job Title: Senior Recovery Practitioner
Location: Abbeycare Gloucester
Reports To: Registered Manager
Hours: Full-time (42hours, 12 hour daily shifts)
Salary: £32,760p.a.
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Recovery Practitioner will provide leadership, supervision, and direct therapeutic support within the residential rehabilitation service. The post-holder will play a key role in coordinating recovery-focused interventions, supporting safe detoxification processes, and facilitating a structured therapeutic programme for individuals affected by substance use.
They will ensure high standards of trauma-informed, person-centred care are maintained, supporting both clients and the wider staff team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Clinical Coordination
· Support the Clinical Lead in day-to-day management and oversight of the residential service.
· Provide line management, supervision, and mentoring to Recovery Practitioners
· Contribute to rota planning, handovers, and daily operational oversight.
· Support clinical governance, ensuring adherence to professional and regulatory standards.
2. Resident Assessment and Recovery Care Planning
· Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ recovery needs, including substance use history, risk, and psychosocial factors.
· Collaborate in the development, delivery, and review of individual recovery care plans.
· Support safe detoxification in partnership with nursing staff, ensuring continuous monitoring and emotional support for clients.
· Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and case reviews.
3. Therapeutic Interventions
· Deliver one-to-one sessions focused on recovery, relapse prevention, and life skills.
· Facilitate evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT-informed, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation).
· Support clients to set achievable goals and build relapse prevention strategies.
· Contribute to family-inclusive practice where appropriate.
4. Risk Management and Safeguarding
· Identify, assess, and manage risks to clients’ wellbeing and safety in line with safeguarding policies.
· Respond to incidents promptly and effectively, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting.
· Promote a safe, supportive, and structured environment conducive to recovery.
5. Quality Assurance and Service Development
· Support the ongoing review and improvement of service delivery.
· Contribute to audits, evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives.
· Ensure accurate record keeping, data entry, and compliance with GDPR and service policies.
· Support staff development through reflective practice, supervision, and in-service training.
6. Partnership and Networking
· Liaise with external professionals, including health, social work, and criminal justice partners.
· Support clients’ transition and aftercare planning through effective communication with community-based services.
· Represent the service at multi-agency meetings and local partnership forums as required.
Person Specification
Essential:
· Relevant qualification in health, social care, counselling, or related field (minimum NVQ Level 4 or equivalent).
· Experience working in substance use or mental health services, ideally in a residential or detox setting.
· Strong understanding of addiction, recovery models, and trauma-informed care.
· Experience in supervising or mentoring staff.
· Knowledge of safeguarding, detox protocols, and risk management procedures.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
· Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable:
· Experience in delivering structured therapeutic programmes and group facilitation.
· Experience in working with co-occurring mental health issues.
· Training in relevant therapeutic approaches (e.g., MI, CBT, trauma-informed practice).
