An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of healthcare support worker (HCA) on Bronte Ward, fixed term for a period of 11 months commencing in September, at band 3.
The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) plays a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to patients within an inpatient dementia and mental health setting. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the HCA supports patients with their physical, emotional, and social needs while promoting dignity, independence, safety, and wellbeing.
To provide skilled, compassionate, and person-centred support to female patients with dementia and complex mental health needs, ensuring their safety, dignity, wellbeing, and quality of life while contributing to the delivery of effective inpatient dementia services.
The role involves assisting patients with activities of daily living, observing and reporting changes in physical or mental health, supporting therapeutic activities, and contributing to a safe and compassionate ward environment. HCAs work closely with registered nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, patients, families, and carers to ensure care is delivered in line with Trust values, policies, and professional standards.
Deliver high-quality, compassionate, and person-centred care to female patients with dementia and mental health needs.
Support patients with personal care, nutrition, hydration, continence, mobility, and maintaining independence.
Undertake and record physical health observations and other delegated clinical tasks within competence.
Support patients experiencing distress, confusion, anxiety, responsive behaviours, or agitation associated with dementia.
Observe, document, and promptly report changes in patients' physical health, mental state, behaviour, and risk.
Facilitate and encourage engagement in therapeutic, social, and recreational activities.
Work collaboratively with nurses, medical staff, occupational therapists, and other professionals.
Support the implementation of care plans, risk assessments, and behavioural support strategies.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with Trust policies.
Contribute to maintaining a safe ward environment and support safeguarding, infection prevention, and health and safety practices.
Participate in ward meetings, supervision, training, and continuous professional development activities.
