Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and hands on Quality Manager to support the Technical Manager in maintaining the highest standards of food safety, legality, quality, and animal welfare across our beef abattoir and cutting plant.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of quality systems on site, ensuring procedures are followed, audits are completed, non-conformances are investigated, and continuous improvements are implemented throughout the operation.
Responsibilities
- Support the Technical Manager in maintaining the site's Quality Management System.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the Quality Assurance function.
- Ensure CCP monitoring and verification activities are completed accurately and on time.
- Oversee routine internal compliance audits, i.e CCP, Glass and Brittle Plastic audits, Fabrication, GMP, Hygiene etc
- Support preparation for and participation in BRCGS, Red Tractor, retailer, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Investigate non-conformances, customer complaints, and food safety incidents using root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Manage environmental monitoring, microbiological sampling programmes, and trend analysis.
- Monitor microbiological results, ensuring any issues are escalated and investigated.
- Provide training and coaching to production staff on GMP, food safety, quality standards, and hygiene requirements.
- Ensure factory standards are maintained through regular inspections and corrective action follow-up.
- Produce quality reports and KPI data for review by the Technical Manager and Senior Management Team.
- Promote a positive food safety and quality culture across the site.
Skills & Experience
- Experience within a Quality Manager, Senior QA, or quality assurance role within food manufacturing. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced QA professional ready to progress into a management role.
- Experience within meat processing, abattoirs, or red meat production would be highly advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS, GMP, Red Tractor, and food safety legislation.
- Experience conducting internal audits and supporting third-party audits.
- Understanding of microbiological controls and environmental monitoring.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively across production and technical departments.
- HACCP and Food Safety qualifications desirable.
