A well-established organisation operating within a regulated environment is seeking an experienced Interim Category Manager to provide cover for a permanent vacancy. This is an opportunity to join a commercially focused procurement function that plays a key role in delivering value, compliance, and strategic outcomes across a diverse portfolio of spend.
Working within a collaborative team, you will support the organisation's procurement and contract management activities, ensuring best practice procurement is delivered whilst maintaining compliance with current public sector procurement legislation and transparency requirements.
Your new role
As Interim Category Manager, you will lead and manage a portfolio of procurement activity, supporting the delivery of complex sourcing exercises and category strategies. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you will identify procurement requirements, provide expert commercial advice and ensure procurement activity is carried out in line with relevant legislation and best practice.You will be responsible for driving value through effective category management, supplier engagement and contract management, while analysing market trends and opportunities that support wider organisational objectives. The successful candidate will be expected to quickly establish credibility with stakeholders and suppliers, taking ownership of procurement projects from inception through to contract award and implementation. This opportunity is particularly suited to procurement professionals with experience across either Professional Services or Goods and Works categories.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong background in public sector procurement and experience leading end-to-end procurement exercises within a regulated environment. You will possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills and have the ability to manage competing priorities while delivering high-quality commercial outcomes.Experience within either Professional Services procurement or Goods and Works procurement is essential, alongside a sound understanding of current procurement legislation and governance requirements. You will be a confident communicator who can present recommendations and procurement outcomes to senior stakeholders, with the ability to work autonomously and influence decisions across the business. MCIPS status, or progress towards achieving it, would be advantageous.
