About the Service
Housing Standards is St Helens Borough Council’s private sector housing enforcement service, committed to ensuring that rented homes are safe, healthy and well managed. We work closely with landlords, tenants and managing agents to improve housing conditions, tackle poor standards and enforce housing legislation where necessary. A key priority for the service is delivering the Council’s responsibilities under the Renters’ Rights Act 2026, helping to protect tenants, support responsible landlords and raise standards across the private rented sector.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking Housing Standards Team at a time of significant change within the private rented sector. As a Senior Housing Investigatory Officer, you will play a leading role in delivering and enforcing the Council’s responsibilities under the Renters’ Rights Act 2026, undertaking complex investigations, tackling unlawful practices, and ensuring landlords and agents comply with their legal obligations.
You will lead on high-profile enforcement cases, including illegal eviction, tenant harassment and breaches of housing-related consumer protection legislation, using a range of formal enforcement powers where necessary. Working closely with colleagues, legal services and partner agencies, you will help protect vulnerable residents, improve standards across the private rented sector and support the development of a fair, safe and compliant housing market in St Helens.
This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact on local communities while developing your expertise within a supportive and ambitious service at the forefront of housing regulation and enforcement.
