Best Superstore Ltd is recruiting experienced part-time retail assistants for University Stores, our busy convenience store and off-licence in Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent.
We are looking for reliable, confident and customer-focused people who already have experience working in a convenience store, newsagent, supermarket or off-licence environment.
As the role requires the assistant to sell alcohol, the role is only for over 18's.
Main responsibilities
- Serving customers efficiently and politely
- Operating the till and handling cash and card payments
- Following Challenge 25 and age-verification procedures
- Replenishing shelves, fridges and promotional displays
- Rotating stock and checking expiry dates
- Receiving and checking supplier deliveries
- Completing routine cleaning duties throughout the shift, including the till area, shop floor, shelving and staff/customer areas as required.
- Monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages
- Preparing and managing delivery-platform orders where required
- Following store procedures relating to refusals, incidents, security and responsible retailing
Essential
- Previous experience in a convenience store, off-licence, supermarket or similar retail environment
- Confident using an electronic till or EPOS system
- Good customer-service and communication skills
- Reliable and punctual
- Able to work evenings and weekends
- Comfortable replenishing stock and carrying out physical shop-floor duties
- Able to follow age-restricted sales and Challenge 25 procedures
- Able to work independently and as part of a small team
Desirable
- Experience selling alcohol, tobacco, vapes or other age-restricted products
- Experience checking deliveries and rotating stock
- Experience with PayPoint, parcel services or online delivery orders
- Local knowledge of Shelton and the surrounding area
- Flexibility to cover additional shifts
