We are seeking am empathetic and skilled young person to become a Personal Assistant (PA) to support our 16 year old autistic son to develop his confidence in accessing community activities.
The PA would be required to have experience of working with young people with autism, have excellent communication skills and be willing to follow the " low demand" behavioural approach.
Our son experiences anxiety when leaving the home, therefore the PA would be required to be patient and resilient to develop a trusting relationship with them prior to undertaking any activities outside the home. It is essential that the PA has a passion for and extensive knowledge of gaming. My son requests that the person be a "smart thinker". He can be sociable and enjoys chatting about games and gaming.
Initially the PA would support them to attend a D&D group in Leeds City Centre 4-8 pm on Fridays. This would involve meeting them at our home in Roundhay LS8 at 4pm and supporting them to travel by bus to and from the venue. This role would be to develop their independence around using public transport and navigating the journey.
The role could be extended to provide further support at weekends and school holidays.
