Deputy Manager – Overview
We are seeking a proactive, accountable, and compassionate Deputy Manager to support the effective day-to-day running of our care home. This is a key leadership role requiring someone who can lead by example, support and develop the team, and maintain high standards of care, compliance, and professionalism at all times.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Registered Manager to oversee daily operations, ensure excellent outcomes for residents, and promote a positive and supportive culture for both residents and staff. The role requires a confident leader who is able to make sound decisions, take ownership of responsibilities, and remain calm and organised within a fast-paced care environment.
The Deputy Manager must also be willing and available to participate in the management on-call rota and be accountable for responding appropriately to operational issues, emergencies, safeguarding concerns, staffing matters, and incidents outside of normal working hours.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the home
- Lead, supervise, and support staff to ensure high standards of care and professionalism are consistently maintained
- Act as a positive role model and promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, dignity, and respect
- Support the induction, teaching, mentoring, and ongoing development of team members
- Assist with staff supervision, performance management, investigations, and disciplinary processes where required
- Organise staffing levels and resources effectively to meet the needs of residents safely
- Support audits, compliance monitoring, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure effective communication with residents, relatives, professionals, and external agencies
- Promote person-centred care and ensure residents’ wellbeing, safety, and rights are upheld at all times
- Assist in overseeing medication systems, care planning, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes
- Ensure compliance with CQC standards, organisational policies, and health & safety requirements
- Participate fully in the management on-call rota and respond appropriately to out-of-hours concerns and emergencies
- Take accountability for decisions made within the scope of the role and escalate concerns appropriately when required
- Support recruitment and retention by assisting with interviews, onboarding, and team engagement
Experience & Skills
- Previous experience in a senior, supervisory, or management role within adult social care
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support, and develop others
- Good understanding of safeguarding, CQC standards, medication management, and care home operations
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive under pressure
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Confident communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care
- Flexible, reliable, and willing to participate in an on-call rota
- A positive, solution-focused approach with a strong sense of accountability and ownership
