I run an independent local news website covering Pendle, and I’m looking for someone who can actually sell advertising and sponsorship without sounding like they’ve swallowed a corporate sales handbook.
The site has grown quickly, gets strong local traffic, covers everything from council meetings and planning to schools, crime, business and community news, and now I need someone to help turn that audience into regular sponsorship revenue.
What I’m looking for:
- Someone comfortable picking up the phone and speaking to local businesses
- Ideally some experience selling advertising, sponsorship, media, radio, newspapers, magazines, digital or anything vaguely similar
- Someone who understands that local businesses don’t want a 47-slide sales presentation
- Happy to work remotely, although Lancashire/North West would be a big bonus
- Comfortable working for a cut of the sale, or possibly a low base/day rate plus a cut depending on experience
- Able to generate leads, follow them up and preferably close deals too
- Not terrified of cold calling
The sponsorship packages are aimed at local and regional businesses, including exclusive sitewide and section sponsorship opportunities.
This is still a growing independent publication, so I’m not looking for a giant agency setup. I’m looking for one good salesperson who fancies helping build something from the ground up and earning properly if they can sell it.
If you’ve sold ads before and still have your sanity, even better.
Send me a quick message telling me what you’ve sold, how you normally work and what sort of cut/rate you’d be looking for.
