Introduction
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving new business acquisition, growing existing accounts, and delivering commercial targets and profitability for BBC Coffee. The role acts as the primary commercial point of contact for customers, working closely with the Production team to ensure customers are kept fully informed on order timelines and that delivery expectations are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, pursue and win new business opportunities to grow BBC Coffee's customer base and revenue.
- Develop and grow existing accounts, identifying opportunities for incremental and repeat sales.
- Own commercial targets for the account portfolio, driving sales performance and profitability against agreed budgets.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers to support retention, growth and new business referrals.
- Liaise closely with the Production team to obtain accurate order timelines and flag urgent or priority orders.
- Proactively communicate order status, lead times and any changes to timelines to customers, ensuring they are kept fully informed at every stage.
- Handle customer queries and issues promptly and professionally, working with Production and other departments to resolve them.
- Report on sales performance, pipeline and account activity to Senior Management.

- Production team (BBC Coffee, Southampton) — order timelines, scheduling and priority handling
- Customers — new business development, account growth and order timelines
- Senior Management / Commercial team — reporting and escalation
Person Specification
- Previous experience in a business development, sales or account management role, ideally within FMCG, food/beverage or manufacturing.
- Track record of winning new business and growing existing accounts against commercial targets.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the confidence to manage customer relationships proactively.
- Highly organised, with the ability to coordinate between multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable working closely with a production/operations team to understand and relay scheduling information.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office / Excel; experience with CRM or ERP systems an advantage.
- A proactive, commercially-minded and customer-focused attitude with strong problem-solving skills.
Remuneration
Base salary of £30,000 – £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience. In addition, a performance-related bonus scheme is available, worth up to 40% of base salary, based on achieving agreed budget and sales targets.
Location & Hours
This role is based full-time at BBC Coffee Limited, Adanac Park, Southampton. Standard office hours apply, Monday to Friday.
Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
