Minimum 2 days per week with 3 Saturdays.
Ideal first graduate job in the arts. Previous experience in customer facing roles an advantage.
The Gallery Assistant must be prepared to do any work that is reasonably required by the gallery manager or the partners in the execution of his/her duties. Appropriate training and guidance will be given.
The Gallery Assistant will not be in sole charge of the gallery.
Gallery
- Create a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere in manner and appearance to everyone coming into the gallery
- Be proactive in discussing artwork in the gallery with clients. Discuss and answer queries knowledgeably and provide relevant information and material to customers. Should have excellent communication skills and a sense of humour.
- Achieve and then process sales, including payment on the Own Art Scheme. (Training will be provided)
- Wrap sold artwork appropriately.
- Use the database to maintain an accurate record of customers and stock
- Ensure that the displays are in good order and that sold items are replaced.
- Be aware of any security issues, including vulnerability of work to theft.
- Assist the other staff members in hanging and displaying artwork in the gallery, windows, and cabinets
- Update artists’ biographies
- Produce display labels for artwork.
- Pack and dispatch artwork with appropriate records
- Cleaning
- Take responsibility for addressing any problems that occur and understand when appropriate to refer to other members of the Gallery team.
- Update Gallery Website ( training will be given)
