Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon – Medico-Legal Expert Panel

Position Overview
LPT Healthcare is strengthening its network of independent medical experts and is inviting applications from suitably qualified Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons interested in medico-legal work.
This opportunity provides the flexibility to accept cases that match your availability, with assessments arranged either remotely or at an appropriate clinical venue.
Key Duties
The successful consultant will be expected to:
- Undertake independent orthopaedic assessments for medico-legal instructions.
- Consider relevant medical histories, records, diagnostic investigations and imaging.
- Formulate independent clinical opinions based on the evidence available.
- Comment, where appropriate, on injury, diagnosis, causation, prognosis and ongoing treatment requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive and professionally presented expert reports.
- Ensure all reports and case information are handled securely and confidentially.
- Work within relevant professional, regulatory and medico-legal standards.
Requirements
We are particularly interested in hearing from consultants who have:
- Current GMC registration and a valid licence to practise.
- GMC Specialist Register status in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery.
- Appropriate professional indemnity insurance.
- ICO registration/certification where applicable.
- Strong clinical reasoning and report-writing ability.
- Excellent attention to detail and written communication skills.
Previous involvement in medico-legal reporting would be advantageous, although consultants with the appropriate clinical background who are looking to develop their medico-legal practice are also welcome to apply.
Working Arrangement
Cases are offered on a flexible basis and can be accepted according to your individual availability. You can undertake a level of work that complements your existing clinical commitments.
Our coordination team assists with the administrative side of each case, including appointment arrangements, document management, communication and report submission.
Consultant Remuneration
- Attractive percentage-based remuneration for completed assessments and reports.
- Payment is made following receipt of the relevant funds from the instructing party.
- No fixed minimum caseload is required.
