Job Title: General Operative / Fitter's Mate
Contract Duration: 6 Weeks (Fixed-Term Contract)
Location: Residential Project Site
Reporting To: Lead Fitter / Site Supervisor
Job Purpose
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking General Operative to assist one of our internal fitters on a residential project for a six-week contract. The successful candidate will support the installation of boxing and assist with core drilling activities while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and workmanship.
As this is a notifiable construction project under HSE regulations, strict compliance with all site rules, company policies, and health and safety requirements is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Fitter with day-to-day installation works.
- Support core drilling operations under the direction of competent personnel.
- Assist in the installation of boxing and associated works.
- Handle and transport materials, tools, and equipment safely.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.
- Follow all instructions from the Site Supervisor and Lead Fitter.
- Wear and correctly use all required PPE at all times.
- Report any hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents immediately.
- Work safely in accordance with site-specific RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements).
Essential Requirements
- Physically fit and capable of manual handling.
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Right to work in the UK.
Health & Safety
This project is a notifiable construction site under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015). All personnel are expected to:
- Comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
- Follow all site induction requirements and company safety procedures.
- Attend toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Work in accordance with all site rules and permit systems where applicable.
- Immediately report accidents, incidents, unsafe acts, or unsafe conditions.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
We operate a zero-tolerance Drug and Alcohol Policy.
- All employees and contractors may be subject to drug and alcohol testing before commencing work and at any time during their employment on site.
- Any positive test result, refusal to undergo testing, or evidence of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will result in immediate removal from site and may lead to termination of the contract.

The following standards apply:
- Treat colleagues, clients, residents, and members of the public with respect.
- Offensive, abusive, threatening, or discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated.
- Swearing, aggressive language, or inappropriate conduct is prohibited whilst on site.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude throughout the contract.
Failure to comply with site rules or company policies may result in immediate removal from site and termination of the contract.
