Job Overview
## Creative Pottery Maker / Studio Collaborator
**Part-time or full-time | Starting wage: £13 per hour | Slough / Woking, UK**
I’m looking for a creative and collaborative person to join me and help grow my pottery business.
This role could suit a home potter, production potter, slip caster, or someone with a range of practical and creative skills. You may be experienced, self-taught or simply keen to develop your skills. The most important things are that you are reliable, enthusiastic and excited by the idea of helping shape a growing business.
### What the role could involve
Depending on your skills and preferred way of working, you could help with:
- Making larger quantities of my existing pottery designs
- Producing your own designs alongside my ranges
- Production pottery or slip casting
- Preparing, glazing and finishing work
- Packing and general studio tasks
- Creating content or supporting social media
- Sharing ideas about how the business could grow
- Helping develop efficient and enjoyable ways of working
The role is intentionally flexible and could be shaped around the right person’s skills, interests and circumstances.
### Working arrangements
There are several possible ways of working:
- You could work from your own home studio, with me collecting your bisque-fired work and taking it to my home studio to glaze and finish.
- If you would like to be involved in more of the process, or do not have a suitable home studio, I could look into renting a shared workspace for us to work in together.
- A combination of home working and shared studio work could also be possible.
The role could be **part-time or full-time**, depending on what works for both of us. I’m based in Slough and currently do my pottery in Woking, so somewhere reasonably commutable would be ideal, although I’m open to speaking with people who are further away.
### A different kind of business
The starting wage would be **£13 per hour**, with the hope of increasing this as the company grows.
I’m inspired by the cooperative, employee-focused business model used by **@oakandwillow**. My vision is to build a company where:
- Workers are paid fairly, same wage as the owner
- Wages increase as the business becomes more successful
- Profit remaining after expenses shared equally among workers (in addition to wages)
- Working arrangements are flexible
- Important decisions about the business are made collectively
It is worth highlighting that the business is not currently at the same stage or scale as Oak & Willow, so the starting wage and current conditions reflect where the business is today at the start of its journey (if my wage ever rises, yours will too!). I would love to find someone who shares these values as the business grows.
I’m not just looking for someone to follow instructions. I’d love to work with a like-minded creative who wants to contribute ideas, take ownership of their work and help shape the future of the business. The role could potentially develop into a longer-term business partnership for the right person.
You do not need to have every skill listed above. What matters most is that you care about making good work, enjoy working collaboratively and are excited by the possibility of helping build a creative business from the ground up.
If you’re interested, please message me with a little information about yourself, your experience, the type of work you enjoy and the kind of arrangement you’re looking for. Examples or photos of your work would be welcome, but they are not essential.
Even if you are unsure whether you fit the description, please get in touch—the role will largely be shaped around the right person.
