VOLUNTEER PEERS
**Please note that this is a voluntary role and is therefore unpaid.**
LOCATION: Discovery College (Inverness or Wick)
COMMITMENT: Ideally one half-day or one full day each week, with some flexibility available
Discovery College provides welcoming spaces where people can connect, learn and build confidence as part of their recovery and wellbeing journey.
We are looking for friendly and approachable Volunteer Peers to help create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone who comes through our doors.
THE ROLE
As a Volunteer Peer, you will offer informal peer support through listening, conversation and encouragement. You will help people feel welcome, connect with others and get involved in Discovery College activities.
You may also:
- Welcome and support people using the Discovery College Lounge.
- Encourage positive wellbeing conversations and connection with others.
- Promote Discovery College courses, activities and events.
- Signpost people to further support where appropriate.
- Help with refreshments, learning materials and keeping the lounge welcoming.
Where appropriate, you may draw on your own lived experience to support others. This is , and you will be supported to maintain appropriate boundaries.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for people who are:
- Friendly, empathetic and non-judgemental.
- Good listeners and comfortable talking to others.
- Reliable and able to work as part of a team.
- Respectful of confidentiality and individual differences.
- Willing to learn.
Lived experience of mental health challenges, or supporting someone with mental health challenges, is welcomed but not essential.
WHAT WE OFFER
You will receive training and ongoing support from the Discovery College team, with opportunities to develop your confidence, communication and peer support skills.
You will also have access to free Discovery College courses and can receive a reference following successful volunteering.
