Job Introduction
As Health & Safety Advisor, you will be working predominantly at Selfridges’ Head Office at the Oxford Street store, London. This exciting role is a varied one and supports many different activities and departments across our Four stores and Head Office functions. Fundamentally the purpose is to provide advice to the various stakeholders across the business, support in the management of health and safety, improve health & safety culture and knowledge and deliver safe operational practices.
There will be occasional visits to Birmingham Bullring, Manchester Exchange and Manchester Trafford stores to provide advice and assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
Influence and Engage

Partnering with key stakeholders to ensure the delivery of projects, events and activity are safe and risks are managed appropriately

Improve the knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities relating to health and safety amongst stakeholders and in doing so, positively influence the behaviours of their teams

Support and contribute to creating robust policies and raising awareness of these policies amongst relevant parties

Maintain awareness of changes within current Health & Safety legislation to ensure continued compliance and deliver up to date advice and support

Monitor and manage the Health & Safety inbox, providing timely, accurate, and tailored responses to meet individual needs and requirements.
Incident & accident management

Investigate and record incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health. Establishing immediate cause, contributory factors and root causes with an agreed action plan to reduce/eliminate future incidents and accidents.

Complete risk assessments and area inspections with area managers, agree action plans if applicable and support the progress through these actions
Reporting

Analyse data from both leading and lacking indicators and ensure regular reporting for all stores and areas of the business & work with key stakeholders to discuss the impact on their activity.
Training

Work with the Learning and Development team to create and deliver Health & Safety training & proactively identify training needs and opportunities
About you

Essential: NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification) and IOSH Managing Safely.

Essential: Strong administrative skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

IOSH membership at Technical (TechIOSH) or Graduate (GradIOSH) level, or actively working towards membership.

Sound understanding of current Health & Safety legislation and best practice.

Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.

Highly self-motivated, organised, and capable of prioritising workloads independently.

Flexible and adaptable approach, with a keen eye for detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.

Strong team player with the ability to work autonomously and take ownership of tasks.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels.
