Laing O'Rourke is supporting the transformation of the UK's electricity network through the Great Grid Upgrade, and we're looking for a Senior Electrical Design Manager to play a leading role on the Chesterfield substation project.
This is an opportunity to sit at the centre of a nationally significant EHV scheme, shaping design strategy, influencing outcomes, and helping modernise critical infrastructure needed for a net‑zero future.
What you'll be doing
Leading electrical design management across a complex EHV substation project
Providing technical leadership across internal teams, designers, and supply chain partners
Managing design assurance, compliance and integration, from early design through to delivery
Working closely with construction and project leadership to ensure buildability and programme alignment
Acting as a key interface with the client and other external stakeholders
What you'll bring
Strong experience in EHV / HV substation design, ideally within major infrastructure programmes
A solid grounding in UK standards, safety, and regulatory requirements for transmission assets
The confidence to lead design conversations, challenge constructively, and influence at senior level
A collaborative mindset, comfortable working across multi‑disciplinary and multi‑organisational teams
Experience balancing technical detail with programme, cost and delivery priorities
