We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Software Engineer to join our Energy business, delivering high‑quality SCADA and RTU‑based control systems for the transmission and distribution sector. This role involves leading small project teams through the full project lifecycle—from requirements and design through to implementation, testing, and customer acceptance.
You will work closely with the Project Manager to plan, coordinate, and technically guide the delivery of multiple short‑turnaround projects, including system upgrades, extensions, and modifications. The role requires strong control and automation expertise, the ability to review and assure the work of others, and proven experience delivering systems within highly regulated environments. Experience with substation automation, bay controllers, and RTUs is advantageous but not essential.
Essential Requirements:
Minimum 5 years' experience /Advanced SCADA Configuration skills using at least one of the following applications: -COPA-DATA Zenon
Codra Panorama
ArchestrA System Platform
Other PLC/RTU independent SCADA package
Minimum 3 years' experience of the following: -Producing Function Design Specifications, System/Detailed Design Specifications, I/O Schedules and Test Specifications
Performing Internal and Customer Factory Acceptance Tests
Technical Checking & Reviewing of Engineering produced by others.
Track record and experience of technically leading others as a project technical lead or a sub team of larger projects.
Demonstrated ability to Support the development of less‑experienced team members through coaching and knowledge sharing.
Strong understanding of the engineering project lifecycle (e.g., V‑model) and adherence to formal quality assurance and change‑control procedures.
Willingness to travel and work away when required
Full UK Driving licence

To have knowledge and experience in the following: -
Transmission & Distribution Electrical substation control systems
Communication protocols including IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, DNP3 etc
Bay Controllers and RTUs including GE C264 products or DS Agile platform, SEL RTAC & AXION range, GE D2x range of products (GE Multilin D20MX, D20ME) & GE Multilin G500 gateways
Network architectures including RSTP, PRP and HSR
Software Defined Network solutions including Flow Controllers
