We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Accounts Assistant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will support daily financial operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in processing transactions and maintaining financial records.
About the Role
We are a growing business seeking a reliable Accounts Assistant to join our small finance team. This is a varied, hands-on role covering both Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger, offering real ownership and responsibility within the department.
Working closely within a two-person accounts team, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day financial operations. The role also provides variety and continuity, allowing team members to support each other during busy periods and annual leave.
Key Responsibilities
Purchase Ledger
Process, code, and match supplier invoices accurately within the system
Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies
Prepare supplier payments for approval
Maintain accurate supplier records, including bank details, VAT status, currencies, and nominal codes
Perform compliance checks on incoming invoices to ensure correct company and VAT details
Sales Ledger & Credit Control
Post and allocate incoming customer payments
Monitor customer accounts and carry out credit control activities
Chase overdue payments professionally while maintaining strong relationships
Resolve customer account queries efficiently
General Accounts Duties
Reconcile company credit card statements, ensuring receipts and correct VAT treatment
Maintain accurate financial records and system data integrity
Assist with basic month-end processes as required
Support the smooth day-to-day running of the accounts function
Confidently manage the accounts function independently when required
About You
Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant role covering Purchase and/or Sales Ledger
Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and compliance
Confident handling credit control and communication with customers and suppliers
Experience with accounting or ERP systems (OrderWise desirable but not essential)
Organised, reliable, and able to work independently
A team player who works well in a small, collaborative environment
