About Bowles
Bowles is an independent charitable trust located at the stunning Bowles Rocks on the border of East Sussex and Kent. A leader in outdoor learning for schools and colleges, the work is diverse, and we also deliver Learning & Development for business, recreational activities for children and developmental experiences for disadvantaged young adults. The venue has 2 dry ski slopes, ropes courses, indoor heated pool, two accommodation blocks, 9 other ancillary buildings, sandstone rock outcrop in the grounds, woodland activity areas and a small fleet of motorised vehicles.
Multi Trade Maintenance Role
We are seeking a multi-skilled maintenance professional to join the Bowles team to ensure that all buildings, accommodation and activity structures are well maintained and fit for purposes. All work is expected to be of a high standard and in accordance with H&S requirements and current legislation. The role is hands on within a rewarding work environment where you can contribute to the success of the charity.
You will be self-motivated, well organised and able to work using your own initiative within sensible timeframes, working independently, with the support of the maintenance grounds team and subcontractors.
The work can be physically demanding; it will involve manual handling sometimes at height. It will sometimes involve working in challenging environments, inside and out and in all weather.
There is flexibility around working days, which will include working mostly on weekdays with occasional weekend work.
Responsibilities
Reactive Maintenance
- Respond to and resolve maintenance issues across the site promptly and cost – effectively
- Perform hands- on repairs across multiple trades such as general building, minor plumbing, carpentry, decorated and basic electrical tasks
- Carry out regular maintenance and inspection of company vehicles (minibuses, trailers, and tractors) to ensure they are of a roadworthy standard as well as clean and tidy
- Ensure all maintenance equipment used is properly maintained and in good working order
- Work with Head of Facilities to action visitor feedback to improve our premises and service
- Maintain clear records of all reactive works
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Manage the PPM schedule in conjunction with the Head of Facilities, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and documented
- Conduct regular inspections of all properties
Other
- Drive the minibus/van for the transportation of visitors and equipment within the local area (minibus training will be provided), when required
- Keep accurate maintenance records and provide regular updates to the Head of Facilities
Being part of the team
- Support the wider work of Bowles as required
- Assist with and take part in Bowles events as appropriate
- Undertake all necessary training as required by Bowle
Required skills and qualifications
Experience and Qualifications
- Several years’ experience in a relevant role
- Knowledge and skills in: general maintenance; carpentry; decorating; basic plumbing; basic electrics; general building
- Valid full clean driving license

- Strong work ethic and a willingness to go the distance to get things done
- Multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritise
- Clear and professional communication skills
- Ability to plan ahead
- Excellent timekeeping
- Excellent all round fitness and ability to lift heavy items
Highly Desirable
- D1 minibus driving license
- +E Trailer driving license endorsement
Desirable
- IT literacy, comfortable using basic office and property management tools
- Working Knowledge of the various areas of compliance including site-specific Health and Safety issues.
