Build trusted utility data. Protect clients from unnecessary costs.
At Here's the Plan, we believe utility data should be trusted, invoices should be accurate and clients should only ever pay for the energy they have genuinely used.
We're looking for an analytical and inquisitive professional to take ownership of the quality of our clients' utility data while protecting them from incorrect billing. This is a specialist role that combines data analysis, investigation and problem-solving to ensure our clients have complete confidence in the information used to manage their energy.
Rather than simply checking invoices, you'll build and maintain accurate utility consumption datasets, investigate anomalies, resolve complex billing issues and continually improve the quality of the information that supports our clients and Account Managers.
If you enjoy understanding how things work, spotting when something doesn't look right and seeing problems through to a successful conclusion, we'd love to hear from you.
Why This Role Matters
Every service we provide to our clients depends on having accurate, trusted utility data.
From validating invoices and identifying billing errors to analysing consumption trends and supporting strategic energy decisions, the quality of our advice is only as good as the data that underpins it.
As our Utility Data & Invoice Validation Specialist, you'll become the trusted guardian of our clients' utility data. You'll be responsible for building and continuously improving the foundation that supports every service we deliver. You'll ensure client utility data is accurate, complete and reliable, investigate issues when something doesn't look right and protect clients from incorrect utility costs.
Your work won't just resolve today's billing issues—it will continually improve the quality of our data, giving clients and Account Managers greater confidence in every report, recommendation and decision we make.
The Role
You'll become the custodian of the quality and integrity of our clients' utility consumption data, ensuring it provides a trusted foundation for accurate billing, meaningful reporting and informed decision-making.
Working closely with suppliers, industry data providers, Account Managers and internal specialists, you'll investigate discrepancies, resolve complex issues and continually improve the accuracy and completeness of client utility information.
Your work will directly protect clients from unnecessary costs while enabling the wider business to deliver exceptional advice and service.
What You'll Be Doing
Build Trusted Utility Data
- Develop, maintain and continually improve accurate, complete and reliable utility consumption datasets.
- Validate meter histories and ensure client consumption records are complete, accurate and up to date.
- Investigate gaps, inconsistencies and anomalies within consumption, metering and billing data.
- Build a detailed understanding of each client's expected consumption patterns to recognise when something doesn't look right.
- Identify opportunities to improve data quality, data capture processes and overall confidence in client information.
Protect Clients from Incorrect Costs
- Validate utility invoices against expected consumption, contractual arrangements and industry data.
- Identify billing errors, incorrect charges and unusual consumption before they impact clients.
- Ensure clients only pay the charges they should and support the recovery of overcharges where necessary.
Investigate and Resolve Complex Issues
- Work with energy suppliers, network operators, meter operators, data collectors and other industry participants to investigate billing and data discrepancies.
- Take ownership of issues from initial investigation through to successful resolution.
- Monitor progress, challenge suppliers where appropriate and ensure corrective actions are fully implemented.
Provide Technical Expertise
- Supply trusted data and technical insight that enables Account Managers to advise clients with confidence.
- Explain findings clearly to colleagues, helping them communicate complex issues in an understandable way.
- Contribute ideas that improve systems, processes and service delivery across the business.
- Help embed a culture of continuous improvement in utility data quality.
What Makes Someone Successful
You'll thrive in this role if you:
- Naturally question information that doesn't look right.
- Enjoy investigating problems and finding their root cause.
- Take pride in producing accurate, trusted information.
- Have exceptional attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
- Can interpret data and identify meaningful trends, patterns and anomalies.
- Take ownership of issues until they're fully resolved.
- Are organised, methodical and persistent.
- Enjoy continually improving processes rather than simply following them.
- Communicate technical information clearly and confidently.
Skills & Experience
We're looking for someone with experience in some or all of the following:
- Utility invoice validation or bureau services.
- Utility data management or energy data analysis.
- Electricity and gas billing processes.
- Metering, settlement or consumption data.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and analytical skills.
- Investigative problem solving.
- Working with large datasets and identifying anomalies.
- Liaising with suppliers and external stakeholders.
Experience within the energy industry would be advantageous, but we're equally interested in candidates with strong analytical ability, a passion for data quality and the willingness to develop specialist knowledge.
Why Join Here's the Plan?
Here's the Plan is an independent energy consultancy that helps organisations make better energy decisions through expert advice, trusted relationships and high-quality information.
We don't simply process invoices or produce reports—we challenge data, investigate anomalies and ensure our clients can make decisions with confidence.
As our Utility Data & Invoice Validation Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in protecting clients from unnecessary costs while helping us build one of the highest quality utility datasets in the industry.
You'll work alongside specialists in energy procurement, compliance and sustainability, with genuine opportunities to broaden your technical expertise, influence how we develop our services and make a measurable difference to our clients.
If you're motivated by solving problems, improving data quality and making a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
