We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, motivated and professional individuals to join our team as Casual Mayoral & Civic Officers on a zero-hours contract basis.
This important role supports the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, helping to ensure that civic engagements and ceremonial events run smoothly, safely and professionally. Working alongside the Mayor's Officer, you will provide a high level of support to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and their consorts while representing the Council to the highest standards.
The Mayor serves as the First Citizen of the Borough and is a highly visible ambassador for Blackburn with Darwen. As a Casual Mayoral & Civic Officer, you will play a key role in facilitating the Mayor's attendance at a wide range of official engagements, community events and civic functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing chauffeur and transport duties for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and accompanying dignitaries where required.
- Supporting the Mayor and Deputy Mayor at civic engagements, ensuring their comfort, welfare and safety throughout events.
- Conducting venue and logistical checks to identify and report any issues or concerns prior to engagements.
- Assisting with the management of arrivals, departures and movement at events, helping to ensure the smooth running of official engagements.
- Advising and supporting the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and consorts on civic protocol, etiquette and ceremonial procedures.
- Acting as a professional point of contact for event organisers, partners, elected members and members of the public.
- Providing administrative support to the Mayor’s Office, including correspondence, event preparation and record keeping.
- Maintaining confidentiality and exercising good judgement when dealing with sensitive information and high-profile individuals.
About You
The successful applicant will:
- Hold a full, clean UK driving licence.
- Present a smart, professional and confident appearance at all times.
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from all backgrounds.
- Be calm, reliable and able to remain professional under pressure.
- Have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and administrative capability.
- Be confident using IT systems and producing correspondence to a high standard.
- Be able to work independently whilst contributing positively as part of a team.
- Have an understanding of Local Government, civic protocol and working with elected members and senior stakeholders.
Previous experience supporting dignitaries, elected members, VIPs or high-profile individuals would be advantageous.
Working Arrangements
This is a casual, zero-hours position with work offered on an as-required basis. Hours will vary depending on the civic programme and will include evenings, weekends, bank holidays and other unsocial hours. Flexibility is therefore essential.
Successful candidates will be expected to attend a variety of civic engagements and events across the Borough and occasionally further afield.
