We are looking for an experienced & skilled butcher to join the friendly, dedicated team at B. Curtis Butchers.
This position has become available following the retirement of a valued colleague who worked with us for 35 years - something that reflects the supportive, long-term working environment we aim to provide.
The successful candidate will work across both our traditional West Street butcher’s shop in Wareham and our new B. Curtis Farm Shop & Butchery. This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-established family business while working across two very different but equally high-quality retail settings.
We are looking for a skilled butcher who takes pride in their craft, enjoys serving customers and works well as part of a close-knit team. In return, a reliable and hardworking person will be valued, supported and very well looked after.

- Breaking down carcasses and preparing primals and retail cuts
- Cutting and preparing meat to customer specifications
- Providing knowledgeable, friendly service and advice to customers
- Producing attractive, well-presented counter displays
- Maintaining excellent standards of quality, cleanliness and organisation
- Ensuring meat is stored, handled and rotated correctly
- Following all food hygiene, traceability and food-safety procedures
- Supporting colleagues and contributing positively to the wider team
What we are looking for
- Proven experience working as a butcher, ideally within a traditional retail butcher’s shop
- Confidence in carcass breakdown, primal preparation and retail cutting
- Strong knowledge of meat, cuts, preparation methods & cooking suggestions
- Excellent customer-service and communication skills
- A dependable, hardworking and positive attitude
- The ability to work efficiently without compromising quality
- Good attention to detail and high personal standards
- The confidence to support and guide other team members when required
- A genuine interest in traditional butchery and quality local produce
- Somebody who feels they can grow and step into a management role in the future
This role would suit an experienced butcher looking for a secure, long-term position within a respected family business where good craftsmanship and hard work are genuinely appreciated. Bonuses are discretionary.
