About the role
Balfour Beatty is delivering critical energy infrastructure across the UK, and we’re looking for a Substation Site Manager to lead delivery at Woolavington Substation in Bridgwater.
This is a key leadership role on site—owning delivery, driving performance, and ensuring works are completed safely, on programme, and to the highest standards.
What you'll be doing
- Lead and manage site operations, including supervisors, subcontractors, and supply chain
- Deliver works in line with programme, cost, quality, and compliance requirements
- Plan works, allocate resources, and drive productivity on site
- Monitor progress and implement short interval control and performance tracking
- Maintain accurate site records, reports, and documentation
- Implement technical drawings and specifications into delivery
- Champion Zero Harm, ensuring safe systems of work are in place and followed
- Produce and review RAMS, carry out safety tours, and support incident investigations
- Ensure workforce competency, welfare, and behavioural safety standards
- Identify, manage, and escalate risks, issues, and hazards
- Manage subcontractors to ensure performance and contractual compliance
- Support commercial control, including cost management and change (CEs)
- Contribute to programme planning, procurement, and resource management
- Support risk and opportunity processes to maintain delivery momentum
- Lead, motivate, and develop teams—setting clear expectations and standards
- Build strong relationships across project teams, stakeholders, and clients
Who we're looking for
- Proven experience delivering substation or major infrastructure projects in a Site Manager role
- Strong track record of running a safe, compliant site and driving Zero Harm
- Experience managing teams, subcontractors, and multiple work fronts
- Good understanding of programme delivery, sequencing, and site planning
- Commercial awareness with the ability to manage cost, change, and resources
- Confident interpreting technical drawings and specifications
- Strong communication and leadership skills, able to influence at all levels
- Resilient, proactive, and comfortable operating in a high-pressure site environment
- CSCS, SSSTS (or equivalent) and Full UK Driving Licence
- Desirable: Experience across multiple project types and proficiency in O365
