Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for young children in our nursery setting from the ages of 2-5 years. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation and cooking, ensuring that all meals meet safety standards and dietary requirements. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the well-being and development of children through healthy, well-prepared food.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of nutritious meals and snacks suitable for young children in accordance with dietary guidelines and nutritional standards including Food Matters & Setting the Table).
- Ensure all food is prepared safely, adhering to food safety regulations and hygiene practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing utensils, cleaning surfaces, and storing ingredients appropriately.
- Plan menus in collaboration with nursery staff, accommodating special dietary needs or allergies.
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as necessary to ensure continuous availability.
- Assist with meal service, including setting up meal areas and serving food in a friendly manner.
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times to create a safe environment for children and staff.
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, ideally within a childcare or nursery environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety standards and hygiene practices.
- Ability to prepare meals efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Knowledge of nutritional requirements for young children and ability to adapt menus accordingly.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively during busy periods.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with nursery staff and respond to children's needs professionally.
- Flexibility to adapt recipes or meal plans based on dietary restrictions or special occasions.
