A fantastic opportunity has become available at Nationwide for a high performing, passionate and ambitious individual to bring specialist risk & control expertise as a Manager - Risk & Controls dedicated to Change Governance, Risk & Controls (GRC). You’ll be joining the CIO & Change Risk Management team that collaborate across the wider COO GRC. This role will focus on enabling the effective management of the enterprise change risk and control position.
You’ll be passionate about developing data led approaches to delivering risk and control insight that drives proactive action and prioritisation of work.

You’ll be comfortable to work through ambiguity and proactively build your network to allow you to engage collaboratively across other Risk Management teams and subject matter experts to produce high quality and informative products.
As a high performing Change GRC - Manager, Risk & Controls, you will provide specialist change risk expertise and services.
This role is responsible for 1st Line GRC, delivering high support and high challenge services in the management of: Change Execution Risk Policy, Key Controls & Indicators, Enterprise Risk Reporting, Loss Event and Scenario Analysis. It is also responsible for setting, evaluating and reporting on how the Change Portfolio supports targeted risk positions across the enterprise risk profile.
Collaboratively working alongside Risk Teams in COO GRC and the Business and closely with the central Portfolio Management & Operations team. You’ll enable effective management of risk and controls in change execution enabling safe and sound delivery of the Change Portfolio.

This role is responsible for leading the provision of expert insight into change risk and control across Portfolio Management and Operations within COO Business Services. It focuses on enabling the effective identification, assessment, and management of risks associated with change execution. By embedding robust risk practices into transformation activities, the function ensures that risks are proactively identified and managed throughout the lifecycle of change initiatives.
Acting as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders, the role provides both support and constructive challenge to drive risk-informed decision-making across complex programmes. It ensures the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the Change Execution Risk framework, including policies, risk appetite statements, and associated metrics, while maintaining alignment with the broader Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF). Strong governance is applied to monitor adherence to policy and risk appetite, with clear oversight of waivers, dispensations, and breaches.
In addition, the position plays a key role in defining, enhancing, and monitoring controls and performance indicators. This includes driving the adoption of automation to improve the efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness of risk management processes. Comprehensive risk reporting is delivered through oversight of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Key Control Indicators (KCIs), and issue and loss event management processes, ensuring a consistent and enterprise-wide view of risk exposure.
The role also leads forward-looking risk activities, including scenario analysis and horizon scanning, to identify emerging risks and strengthen controls. It ensures strong integration between the Change Framework and the ERMF, embedding risk expertise into strategic investment planning and funding decisions to optimise risk outcomes. Collaboration across COO GRC and enterprise risk teams is essential to deliver a joined-up approach, while continuous improvement and innovation are championed to enhance the effectiveness and maturity of Change GRC practices.
- Significant experience in the management of change risk within financial services context
- Deep change policy, risk and controls expertise
- Strong understanding of the change investment and delivery lifecycles
- Strong stakeholder relationship and influencing skills with Senior Management level up to ExCo – 2, including accountable policy and risk owners
- Proven delivery experience, with problem solving mindset
- Delivered data led approaches to risk management
- Prior experience in change risk roles in either 1LoD, 2LoD or 3LoD capacity
- Relevant change and or risk certifications (Prince2, IRM etc.)
