Overall Responsibility
The Bus Station Guard plays a key role in ensuring the bus station remains safe, clean, welcoming, and operational while providing a high standard of customer service and supporting the efficient delivery of bus services.
Security and Safety
- Patrol the bus station, car parks, and surrounding areas to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Monitor station facilities and report any security concerns, damage, defects, or suspicious activity.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and accidents, following company procedures.
- Assist emergency services when required.
- Ensure compliance with site rules, health and safety procedures, and company policies.
Customer Service
- Provide a welcoming and professional service to passengers and visitors.
- Answer passenger enquiries relating to bus services, ticketing, facilities, and local information.
- Assist vulnerable passengers where appropriate.
- Deal with customer complaints courteously and escalate issues when necessary.
Ticket Sales
- Sell bus tickets and passes accurately using the relevant ticketing systems.
- Handle cash and card payments in accordance with company procedures.
- Balance tills and complete end-of-shift cash reconciliation where required.
- Maintain accurate records of ticket sales.
Cleaning and Site Maintenance
- Clean and maintain public areas of the bus station to a high standard.
- Clean and replenish public toilet facilities throughout the day.
- Clean staff welfare facilities, offices, kitchens, and rest areas.
- Remove litter from station buildings, bus stands, waiting areas, and surrounding grounds.
- Empty bins and ensure waste is disposed of correctly.
- Report maintenance defects requiring specialist attention.
General Duties
- Carry out routine inspections of station facilities.
- Monitor lighting, heating, doors, gates, and public equipment, reporting faults promptly.
- Support operational staff during busy periods or service disruptions.
- Assist with special events and emergency procedures as directed.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role.

Experience
Essential
- Experience in a customer-facing role.
- Experience working within a public environment.
Desirable
- Security, facilities, or transport experience.
- Cash handling and ticket sales experience.
- First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Conflict management or customer service training.
Working Conditions
- Shift work, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Regular walking and standing throughout the shift.
- Duties are undertaken both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Manual handling of cleaning equipment and supplies may be required.
